We are a small company located in the Western Cape of South Africa. As a company, we aim to bring health, nutrition and wellness to your companions. As we begin our journey into making honest, healthy food for your best friends and companions, we would like to tell you where Herbst's Hounds all began.
My husband and I moved into our home together and started our fur-baby family with Snow, Ru and Ghost- puppies rescued from the shelters. We loved them, played with them, and, most of all, fed them delicious meals; as we all know, great food brings happiness to all beings. As the months went on we noticed some problems with Ghost. He was drinking lots and lots of water. We took him to our vet, and they told us unfortunately, Ghost had renal failure, he was just 6 months old. After the tears and the conversations, the vets told us he would probably have only 6-12 months left before kidney failure took over. To try and prolong the months he had left, we decided to start looking into wellness and nutrition. After many weeks of researching everything we could, we started him on his nutritional journey to help improve his quality of life and longevity. He was such a beautiful soul, and we wanted as many years as we could with him. We took him for yearly checks and constantly researched to improve his nutrition. We managed to prolong his life, and he lived to be 6 years old before his levels became critical and he sadly passed away peacefully, with my husband and I loving him until the very end.
What we learnt from him was that nutrition is the way forward to living a strong, healthy life. Now, we strive to serve your best friends and companions with the same level of love and passion we have for our own fur family. We source healthy ingredients, labour with love to make their meals, and, most of all treat your fur family as if they were our own.
